Their creators know everything about them from their favourite colour to how they pick their cuticles when they’re nervous. They can feel as real to you as the last person you spoke to. You not only feel for the characters, but you feel the love that they were written with. (Please note that I did not say ‘original’ or ‘likeable’.) Say what you want about things like Fifty Shades of Grey, Twilight, and A Song of Ice and Fire, but they all have something in common: they writers have created very vivid, very real worlds. They want something easy and light to read before bed, not Shakespearean-like dialogue that will leave their head spinning (especially if it’s a small font).
